Toyota Tundra Keys & Fobs
The Tundra's key setup splits by generation. Second-gen trucks (roughly 2007-2013) use a transponder ignition key on Toyota's "G" chip, with a separate flip-style remote on later trim or a remote-head key on others. From about 2014 through 2021 you'll see a remote-head transponder key (cut + chip + buttons in one) with a laser-cut/sidewinder blade on many trims, plus push-to-start proximity (smart) fobs on higher grades. The 2022+ third-gen Tundra moved heavily to push-to-start proximity fobs. Every one of these has to be programmed to the truck, not just cut. We pull key data off the VIN and onboard it with Autel IM608 or Xtool gear so the new key starts the truck and the remote locks/unlocks. Proximity smart fobs cost more than a basic transponder key because of the chip and remote electronics.
A common one on the remote-head Tundra keys (2014-2021): the rubber lock/unlock/panic buttons wear through or stop responding after years of daily use, even though the truck still starts fine. The transponder chip inside is usually still good, so people assume the whole key died. Often the fix is a fresh remote-head key cut to your VIN and programmed, sometimes just a new CR2032-style coin battery and a button-pad refresh if the shell is intact. On push-to-start fobs, a dead coin battery is the usual culprit when the truck won't detect the fob and you're holding it to the start button to crank it.
Toyota Tundra Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Toyota Tundra takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2007-2017 | Chip key + separate remote | GQ43VT20T |
| 2018-2021 | Proximity smart fob | HYQ14FBA |
| 2022-2024 | Proximity smart fob | HYQ14FBX |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. An all-keys-lost Tundra is a different job than copying a spare, but we handle it on-site. We pull the key data from your VIN, generate a key, cut it (laser-cut blade on the newer trucks), and program it to the truck so it starts. Bring the title or registration and a photo ID so we can confirm you own it.
