Toyota Corolla Keys & Fobs
What your Corolla takes depends on the year. Older models (roughly 2003-2013) use a transponder chip key with a Toyota 4D/G-chip in the head, often paired with a separate remote. From about 2014 the Corolla moved to remote-head keys that combine the transponder and the lock/unlock buttons in one laser-cut (sidewinder) blade. Newer Corollas with push-button start (common from the 2017-2020 facelift onward) use a proximity smart fob with rolling-code encryption. Every one of these has to be programmed to your specific car's immobilizer, not just cut. We pull the code by VIN and program on-site with Autel IM608 gear. If you've lost your only working key, the car needs an all-keys-lost relearn, which takes longer than adding a spare to a key you still have.
A common one on the 2014-and-up remote-head keys: the rubber lock/unlock buttons crack and stop responding while the key still starts the car fine. People assume the whole key died, but the transponder is usually still good. The fix is a fresh remote-head key cut and programmed to match. On the push-to-start smart fobs, the usual culprit is a dead CR2032 coin battery, which makes the fob feel dead and the car slow to detect it. A 5-dollar battery often solves it, and if it doesn't, the fob itself needs reprogramming.
Toyota Corolla Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Toyota Corolla takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2009-2013 | Remote / chip key | HYQ12BBY |
| 2014-2019 | Remote-head key | HYQ12BEL |
| 2020-2024 | Proximity smart fob | HYQ14FBN |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. If you've lost every key, we run an all-keys-lost relearn through the immobilizer and program a new one from scratch using your VIN. It takes a bit longer than copying an existing key, but you don't need to bring anything to the dealer.
