Toyota RAV4 Keys & Fobs

RAV4 key tech depends on the year. Roughly 2006 through 2012 models use a transponder chip key (Toyota's 4D/G-chip family) that has to be cut to the ignition and programmed to the car's immobilizer. From about 2013 to 2018 many RAV4s moved to a remote-head key, where the cut blade and the remote buttons are one unit, still transponder-backed. The 2019 and newer fifth-gen RAV4 and the RAV4 Hybrid/Prime use a proximity smart key (push-to-start) with Toyota's H-chip immobilizer, and that smart fob has to be registered to the car electronically. We pull the right key type by VIN, cut it (laser-cut/sidewinder blades on newer trims), and program it to your RAV4 with Autel and Xtool gear so the immobilizer and remote both work before we leave.

A very common RAV4 call is the smart fob that "stopped working" on 2019-and-newer push-to-start models. Most of the time it's a dead CR2032 coin cell inside the fob, not a failed key. The giveaway: the dash shows a low-key-battery warning, range drops to a few feet, or the car won't detect the fob unless you hold it right against the start button. Swapping the coin cell brings it back, no programming needed. If the buttons are physically worn or cracked from years in a pocket, we can shell-swap the fob or program a fresh proximity key instead.

Toyota RAV4 Key Fob FCC IDs

Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Toyota RAV4 takes before the van rolls out.

Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.

Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the year. An older transponder or remote-head key for a 2013-2018 RAV4 is on the lower end. The 2019-and-newer proximity smart fob (push-to-start) costs more because the fob itself is pricier and the programming is more involved. Most RAV4 jobs land well under dealer pricing, and we quote the exact number by VIN before any work starts.

Yes. An all-keys-lost RAV4 is a different job than adding a spare, since there's no working key to clone from, so we program a new smart fob to the immobilizer from scratch using the VIN. We come to the car and handle it on-site. Bring your photo ID and proof you own the RAV4.

No. We're mobile, so we come to wherever your RAV4 is parked and cut plus program the key or smart fob right there, usually the same day. That saves you the tow and the dealer appointment. We carry the blanks and proximity fobs for the common RAV4 years in the van.

Yes, 2014 falls in the remote-head years (about 2013 to 2018), so the cut blade and remote come as one piece we program to the truck on-site. Earlier chip-key RAV4s and the 2019-and-newer smart-fob hybrids are the same visit, different blank. Every model year is on the menu; the VIN tells us which key to bring.

It depends on the year. 2006-2012 Toyota RAV4: HYQ12BBY; 2013-2018 Toyota RAV4: GQ4-52T; 2019-2022 Toyota RAV4: HYQ14FBC. The ID is printed on the back of your fob case. Trim and market can change it, so we confirm the exact part by VIN before the van rolls out.
