Can you add a panic bar to my existing door?

Most aluminum storefront, hollow metal, and solid wood doors can take an exit device. We measure the door and stile width on site and pick a rim, mortise, or vertical-rod device that fits without weakening the door.

What's the difference between a rim, mortise, and vertical rod exit device?

Rim devices mount on the door surface and suit most single doors, mortise devices fit into the door edge for heavier traffic, and vertical rod devices latch top and bottom for double doors without a center post. We recommend the type based on your door and usage.

Can the door still lock from the outside with a panic bar?

Yes. We add outside trim, like a keyed lever or pull, so staff can lock and unlock entry while the push bar always lets people exit freely from inside. We can also set a door as exit-only with no outside trim.

Do you install panic bars on fire-rated doors?

Yes, but fire-rated openings need fire-rated exit devices that latch and self-close, and the bar can't be dogged down to stay unlatched. We confirm the door's rating and install hardware that keeps the fire label valid.
