What Key Does the Toyota Highlander Use?
The Toyota Highlander has used a few different setups depending on year. Older Highlanders (mid-2000s through about 2013) typically run a transponder key with a chip in the head, often the Toyota "G" chip on later ones, cut on a standard edge blade. From roughly 2014 to 2019, most Highlanders moved to a remote-head key or a proximity smart key with push-to-start, and many use a laser-cut (sidewinder) blade. The current generation (2020 and up) is almost all proximity smart key, push-to-start, with a hidden emergency blade tucked inside the fob. Every one of these has to be programmed to your specific Highlander, not just cut. We pull the key code from your VIN, cut the blade (edge or laser depending on year), and program the transponder or smart key to the immobilizer with our Autel IM508 right there. Smart fobs also need to register to the vehicle's smart-key system, which we handle on-site.
