Nissan Versa Keys & Fobs
The Versa's key changed with its generations. Older first-gen Versas (mid-2000s through early 2010s) use a transponder key with a metal blade that has to be cut and chip-programmed to the car. Most 2012-2019 Versa sedans and Versa Note hatchbacks run a remote-head key (the blade and the lock/unlock buttons share one fob) on Nissan's transponder system. The redesigned 2020-and-newer Versa moved to push-to-start trims that use a proximity (smart) fob, while base manual-transmission models still take a remote-head key. Any of these needs the transponder or smart fob registered to your Versa's immobilizer with a programmer; cutting alone won't start the engine. We pull your code by VIN and program on-site, including all-keys-lost when you've got nothing left to clone from.
A common Versa headache is the remote-head key itself wearing out. The buttons stop responding or the blade cracks where it folds, and owners assume the whole key died when it's often just a worn shell or a dead coin battery (a CR2032 in most of these fobs). We can re-shell a good chip into a fresh case or cut and program a brand-new remote-head key. On the 2020+ smart-fob Versas, a weak fob battery often shows up as the car not detecting the key on push-to-start; swapping the coin cell usually fixes it before you ever need a new fob.
Nissan Versa Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Nissan Versa takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2007-2011 | Intelligent Key / remote | CWTWB1U751 |
| 2012-2019 | Intelligent Key | CWTWB1U840 |
| 2020-2024 | Intelligent Key | KR5TXN1 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All-keys-lost is routine on the Versa. We pull your key code by VIN, cut a new blade, and program the transponder or smart fob straight to your car's immobilizer on-site. No working key needed to start the process.
