Nissan Pathfinder Keys & Fobs
Which key your Pathfinder uses depends on the year. Older R51 Pathfinders (mid-2000s through 2012) run a transponder ignition key, often paired with a separate remote, with the chip cut to a laser/sidewinder blade. The R52 generation (2013-2020) moved to the Nissan Intelligent Key, a proximity smart fob for push-to-start that you keep in your pocket, plus a small emergency blade hidden inside the fob shell. The current R53 (2022 and up) uses an updated proximity Intelligent Key with the same push-to-start setup. Every one of these has to be programmed to the car: the transponder or proximity fob is registered to the Pathfinder's immobilizer (Nissan's NATS system) with a programmer like our Autel IM608, and the blade is cut to your VIN or by reading the existing lock. We handle both the cut and the programming on-site, including all-keys-lost situations where you have no working key left.
A common one on the R52 Pathfinder: the Intelligent Key starts acting up, the doors stop unlocking on approach, or the dash throws a "Key ID Incorrect" or "No Key Detected" warning. Nine times out of ten it's just the CR2032 coin battery inside the fob giving out, which is a cheap fix you can do yourself. If a fresh coin battery doesn't bring it back, the fob's internal board or the proximity antenna may have failed, and at that point you need a replacement fob programmed to the car. We test the old fob first so you're not paying for a new one you don't need.
Nissan Pathfinder Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Nissan Pathfinder takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2005-2012 | Chip key + separate remote | KBRASTU15 |
| 2013-2020 | Intelligent Key | KR5S180144014 |
| 2022-2024 | Intelligent Key | KR5TXPZ1 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All-keys-lost is routine for us on the Pathfinder. We pull your key code from the VIN to cut a fresh blade, then register a new transponder key or Intelligent Key to the car's immobilizer on-site. No working key needed, and no tow to the dealer.
