Nissan Sentra Keys & Fobs

What your Sentra needs depends on the year. Older Sentras (roughly mid-2000s through 2012) use a transponder key with a Nissan chip that has to be cut to the lock and programmed to the immobilizer so the engine will start. From the 2013 model year on, most Sentras moved to the Nissan Intelligent Key, the proximity fob you carry in your pocket for push-to-start and remote lock/unlock, with a hidden emergency blade inside. Some trims in the 2013-2019 range still turn a physical key in the ignition but pair a remote-head or separate remote, while the newer body styles are full proximity push-button. Either type has to be programmed to your car's immobilizer with a scan tool, and proximity fobs also need the remote functions registered. We pull your key code by VIN, cut the blade, and program on-site.

A really common one on the Intelligent Key Sentras is the "Key System Error" or "No Key Detected" warning popping up when the fob is sitting right in your pocket. Nine times out of ten it's the little CR2032 coin battery inside the fob going flat, not the car. You can still start it by holding the fob against the start button while pressing the brake, but the fix is a fresh battery, and we'll test the fob's signal while we're there to make sure it isn't a worn or cracked case letting moisture in.

Nissan Sentra Key Fob FCC IDs

Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Nissan Sentra takes before the van rolls out.

Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.

Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. An all-keys-lost Sentra is one of the most common calls we get. We pull your key code from the VIN, cut a fresh blade, and program a new key or Intelligent Key to your immobilizer on-site. It takes longer than adding a spare since the system has to be reset, but you don't need an existing working key, and we come to you.
