What Key Does the Nissan Sentra Use?
What your Sentra needs depends on the year. Older Sentras (roughly mid-2000s through 2012) use a transponder key with a Nissan chip that has to be cut to the lock and programmed to the immobilizer so the engine will start. From the 2013 model year on, most Sentras moved to the Nissan Intelligent Key, the proximity fob you carry in your pocket for push-to-start and remote lock/unlock, with a hidden emergency blade inside. Some trims in the 2013-2019 range still turn a physical key in the ignition but pair a remote-head or separate remote, while the newer body styles are full proximity push-button.
