Ford Focus Keys & Fobs
What your Focus uses depends on the year. Older Focus models (mid-2000s through about 2011) run a transponder chip in a metal-blade key that has to be cut and then programmed to the car's immobilizer. From roughly 2012 on, most Focus trims moved to a 4-button remote-head key (the chip and the lock/unlock/trunk buttons built into one plastic-head key) on Ford's 80-bit transponder system. Some Titanium trims and the Focus Electric came with push-to-start, using a proximity smart fob instead. Either way, the key blade gets cut to your VIN or by reading the lock, and the chip is programmed to the immobilizer. Push-to-start fobs and most remote-head keys need a scan-tool sync; if it's the last working key, we can pull a fresh PIN and onboard-program it on the spot.
A common one on the 2012-and-up Focus is the remote-head key wearing out: the rubber lock/unlock buttons crack or stop responding while the key still starts the car, or the internal board fails so the doors won't pop on the remote. The fix is a fresh remote-head key shell with a good board, cut to your blade pattern and re-synced to the car. We also see dead coin batteries (CR2032) in the fob mistaken for a bigger failure, and worn ignition lock cylinders on higher-mileage Focuses where the key turns hard or sticks. We diagnose which one it is before charging you for a full key.
Ford Focus Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Ford Focus takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2012-2018 | Remote-head key | N5F-A08TAA |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
