Ford Escape Keys & Fobs
What your Escape uses depends on the year. Older Escapes (roughly 2008-2012) run a transponder chip in a bladed key plus a separate flip or remote, and some early ones used the 4D63 chip family. From about 2013-2019 most Escapes moved to a remote-head key with a laser-cut (sidewinder) blade and Ford's 128-bit encryption, where the chip and buttons live in one fob. The 2020-and-newer redesign uses proximity (push-to-start) smart fobs with passive entry on Intelligent Access trim, plus a hidden emergency blade inside. Every one of these has to be cut to your VIN and then programmed to the car's PATS immobilizer so the engine will start; a fresh fob that isn't programmed will open nothing and crank nothing. We carry the Autel and Xtool gear to do both at your location, and on smart-fob Escapes we can add a key even when you still have a working one, or do an all-keys-lost program when you don't.
The most common call we get on Escapes is the worn remote-head key. On the 2013-2019 models the chip, battery, and buttons are all packed into one fob, so years of pocket carry crack the case and kill the buttons, and the laser-cut blade wears down until it drags in the ignition or door. People assume the whole fob is dead, but often it's just the buttons or a flat coin battery. We test the transponder first; if the chip still talks to the car we can swap the shell and battery and re-cut the blade cheaper than a full replacement. If the chip's gone, we program a new remote-head key to your VIN on the spot.
Ford Escape Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Ford Escape takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2013-2019 | Remote-head key | N5F-A08TAA |
| 2013-2019 | Proximity smart fob (Titanium / SEL) | M3N5WY8609 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the year. A transponder or remote-head key for an older Escape usually runs less than a push-to-start smart fob on a 2020-or-newer model, since the proximity fobs cost more and take more programming. Most Escape jobs land in the low-to-mid hundreds, and we're consistently under dealer pricing. We give you a flat quote by VIN before any work starts.
