Ford Edge Keys & Fobs
Which key the Edge takes depends on the year. First-gen Edges (2007-2014) use a transponder key, a cut blade with a chip in the head that has to be paired to the car's immobilizer. Around the 2011-2014 refresh you'll also see remote-head keys and the flip-out blade fobs. Second-gen Edges (2015 and up) moved to a proximity (push-to-start) smart fob with Ford's later 128-bit encryption, and most of those use a laser-cut/sidewinder emergency blade hidden inside the fob. Every one of these needs the key cut to the lock and the transponder or fob programmed to the car through the OBD port. A common one on the 2015-up Edge is the smart fob that's gotten flaky: you have to be right on top of the door to get it to unlock, or push-to-start only catches every other try.
