Ford F-150 Keys & Fobs

What your F-150 needs depends on the year. Older trucks (roughly 2004-2014, the 11th and 12th gen) use a transponder ignition key with a 4D-style chip, often a remote-head key (key blade plus a flip or fixed remote in one). Move into the 13th gen (2015 and up), and most F-150s run a push-to-start proximity fob, while the work-trim trucks still carry a bladed transponder key. From 2021 on, the higher trims added more capable smart fobs. Either way, the key blade is a high-security sidewinder (laser-cut) on most newer trucks, so it has to be cut on a laser machine, not a standard duplicator. Every replacement gets coded to your truck through the immobilizer with our Autel IM608, and proximity fobs also need the keyless-entry side programmed so the doors and push-button start recognize it.

A common one on F-150s: the truck stops recognizing the fob and you get a "No Key Detected" or "Key Not in Vehicle" message, even though the fob's in your pocket. Nine times out of ten it's the little CR2032 coin cell inside the fob going flat, especially on trucks parked outside through Texas summers. You can usually still start it by holding the fob against the start button, but the real fix is a fresh battery and, if the buttons have gotten mushy or stopped clicking from years of use, a new fob shell or a full replacement programmed to the truck.

Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.

Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.

Yes. We pull the key code from your VIN and cut a fresh blade, then program it to the truck through the immobilizer. You don't need an existing working key. We do verify you're the owner before we cut anything.
