Honda CR-V Keys & Fobs
What your CR-V uses depends on the year. Older CR-Vs (roughly mid-2000s through early 2010s) run a transponder ignition key with a Honda chip, often paired with a separate remote, or a remote-head key that combines the cut blade and remote in one. Newer CR-Vs (2017 and up) moved to a proximity smart fob with push-to-start and a laser-cut/sidewinder emergency blade tucked inside. Both setups have to be programmed to the car's immobilizer; we pull the key info off your VIN, cut the blade or emergency key, and program the transponder/smart fob to the car so it cranks and the push-button start recognizes it. Most CR-V smart-fob jobs also need the system put into programming mode through the vehicle, which we handle with our Autel and Xtool gear on-site.
A common one on the smart-fob CR-Vs is the "key fob not detected" warning, where the dash flags the fob even though it's sitting in the cupholder. Most of the time it's just the CR2032 coin cell inside the fob going flat, and a fresh battery brings it back. If a new battery doesn't fix it, the fob itself may have failed or lost its sync, and it needs to be reprogrammed (or replaced and programmed) to the car. On older transponder CR-Vs, worn ignition keys that have to be jiggled to start usually mean a tired chip or a worn cut, and we can cut and program a fresh key to clear it up.
Honda CR-V Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Honda CR-V takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2007-2013 | Remote-head key | MLBHLIK-1T |
| 2017-2022 | Proximity smart fob | KR5V2X |
| 2023-2024 | Proximity smart fob | KR5TP-4 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. An all-keys-lost CR-V is a routine job for us. We pull the key data from your VIN, cut a fresh blade or emergency key, and program a new transponder or smart fob to the car on-site, so you don't need to tow it to the dealer.
It depends on the year and fob type. Older transponder or remote-head keys are cheaper to replace; the newer push-to-start smart fobs cost more because the fob hardware is pricier and programming takes longer. Most CR-V jobs land in a typical mobile range, and we'll quote you the exact number before any work starts.
No. We program Honda CR-V keys and fobs to the car's immobilizer right where you're parked using our Autel and Xtool programmers. We come to you in McKinney or anywhere around North Dallas, usually the same day.
A 2018 CR-V is push-to-start, so it's a proximity smart fob with a laser-cut emergency blade tucked inside, and we program the fob and cut the blade at your location. The older 2007-2016 transponder and remote-head keys are just as routine. Every CR-V year is covered once we've pulled the key data from your VIN.
It depends on the year. 2007-2013 Honda CR-V: MLBHLIK-1T; 2017-2022 Honda CR-V: KR5V2X; 2023-2024 Honda CR-V: KR5TP-4. The ID is printed on the back of your fob case. Trim and market can change it, so we confirm the exact part by VIN before the van rolls out.
