Honda CR-V Keys & Fobs
What your CR-V uses depends on the year. Older CR-Vs (roughly mid-2000s through early 2010s) run a transponder ignition key with a Honda chip, often paired with a separate remote, or a remote-head key that combines the cut blade and remote in one. Newer CR-Vs (2017 and up) moved to a proximity smart fob with push-to-start and a laser-cut/sidewinder emergency blade tucked inside. Both setups have to be programmed to the car's immobilizer; we pull the key info off your VIN, cut the blade or emergency key, and program the transponder/smart fob to the car so it cranks and the push-button start recognizes it. Most CR-V smart-fob jobs also need the system put into programming mode through the vehicle, which we handle with our Autel and Xtool gear on-site.
A common one on the smart-fob CR-Vs is the "key fob not detected" warning, where the dash flags the fob even though it's sitting in the cupholder. Most of the time it's just the CR2032 coin cell inside the fob going flat, and a fresh battery brings it back. If a new battery doesn't fix it, the fob itself may have failed or lost its sync, and it needs to be reprogrammed (or replaced and programmed) to the car. On older transponder CR-Vs, worn ignition keys that have to be jiggled to start usually mean a tired chip or a worn cut, and we can cut and program a fresh key to clear it up.
Honda CR-V Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Honda CR-V takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2007-2013 | Remote-head key | MLBHLIK-1T |
| 2017-2022 | Proximity smart fob | KR5V2X |
| 2023-2024 | Proximity smart fob | KR5TP-4 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
