Honda Pilot Keys & Fobs

What your Pilot uses depends on the year. First-gen Pilots (2003-2008) run a basic bladed transponder key with no remote built in. Second-gen (2009-2015) moved to a transponder key paired with a separate keyless remote, and later years used a remote-head key with the chip and buttons in one shell. Third-gen (2016-2022) split by trim: base trims kept a remote-head transponder key with a laser-cut (sidewinder) blade, while Touring and Elite added push-to-start proximity smart fobs with an emergency insert blade hidden in the case. Fourth-gen (2023+) ships proximity smart keys standard. Every one of these has to be programmed to the Pilot's immobilizer, and proximity smart fobs also need onboard key registration through the OBD port, which we handle with programmers like the Autel IM608. We cut the mechanical blade by code from your VIN and program the chip so the engine actually starts, not just the buttons.

The most common call we get on Pilots is a fob that suddenly won't lock or unlock the doors, or push-to-start that needs the fob held right against the start button. Nine times out of ten that's a dead CR2032 coin battery inside the fob, a five-dollar fix you can often do yourself by popping the case open with the emergency blade. If a fresh battery doesn't fix it and the buttons are worn through or the case is cracked from years of pocket wear, the fob itself is failing and needs replacing and reprogramming. The other frequent one is a Pilot owner down to a single working key after losing the spare. Get a second key cut and programmed before that last one breaks, because all-keys-lost programming takes longer and costs more.

Honda Pilot Key Fob FCC IDs

Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Honda Pilot takes before the van rolls out.

Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.

Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on your year and key type. A remote-head transponder key for an older Pilot usually runs less than a push-to-start proximity smart fob, which most run $250-380 cut and programmed. You'll pay noticeably more at a Honda dealer, and they often want the vehicle towed in. We come to you and program it on-site.
