Jeep Wrangler Keys & Fobs

What your Wrangler uses depends on the generation. Older TJ Wranglers (late 90s through 2006) take a transponder key with a chip in the head and a cut metal blade, programmed to the immobilizer with a scan tool. JK Wranglers (2007 to 2018) moved to the chunky FOBIK key fob that slots into the dash and turns to start. The JL (2018 and up) runs a proximity smart fob for push-button start on most trims, with some base JL builds still using a turn-to-start FOBIK. New fobs have to be cut to the door/ignition (laser-cut blade on later trucks, edge-cut on older ones) and programmed to the security module by VIN so the immobilizer recognizes them. We carry the right fob type and blanks for each generation and program them at your location.

A common one on JK Wranglers: the FOBIK key fob stops starting the truck or the buttons quit, and people assume the fob died. Often it's just the coin cell battery inside (a CR2032), and a fresh battery brings it back. When the fob case itself is cracked or the internal chip is failing, swapping to a new FOBIK and reprogramming it to your Wrangler fixes it. We can test the fob on the spot and tell you which it is before you pay for a full replacement.

Jeep Wrangler Key Fob FCC IDs

Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Jeep Wrangler takes before the van rolls out.

Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.

Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. An all-keys-lost Wrangler takes longer than a spare copy because we pull the key code from the VIN, cut a fresh blade, and program the new fob to the immobilizer from scratch. We do it at your location with the right scan tool. Bring photo ID and proof you own the Jeep.
