RAM 1500 Keys & Fobs

Which fob your RAM 1500 needs depends on the year. Older DR/DH body trucks (roughly mid-2000s to 2010) use a transponder ignition key, often with a separate remote, on the older Chrysler chip family. Fourth-gen trucks (2009-2018, the DS body) typically run a remote-head key (FOBIK) that slots into the dash and turns to start. The current fifth-gen DT (2019 on) uses a proximity smart fob for push-to-start, plus a laser-cut (sidewinder) emergency blade hidden inside for the door. Every one of these has to be cut to your VIN and programmed to the truck's immobilizer with a tool that talks to the security module. Proximity fobs also need the keyless-entry side paired, not just the chip, which is why a hardware-store copy won't start it.

A super common RAM 1500 complaint is the push-to-start fob that's gotten flaky, the truck says "Key Fob Not Detected" or won't recognize it until you hold it right against the start button. Nine times out of ten that's a dead CR2032 coin cell inside the fob, not a truck fault. Swapping the battery brings it back. If a fresh battery doesn't fix it, the fob's internal board or the proximity antenna can be the issue, and we can program a replacement smart fob on-site to confirm.

Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your RAM 1500 takes before the van rolls out.

Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.

Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We program proximity smart fobs for the 2019-and-up RAM 1500 right at your truck. We cut the hidden emergency blade to your VIN and pair the fob to the immobilizer on-site, so there's no dealer trip and no tow.

Yes, and it's a good idea to do it before that last one's gone. With a working key it's a quick add. If you've lost all keys, we can still program a new one from scratch by VIN, it just takes a bit longer because the truck has to relearn the fob.

It depends on the year and fob type. Older remote-head FOBIK keys are cheaper; the newer push-to-start smart fobs cost more because of the proximity electronics. Most RAM 1500 fob jobs still run noticeably under dealer pricing, and we come to you. We'll quote the exact number for your year before any work.

Sure. A 2013 RAM 1500 is a DS-body truck, so it runs the FOBIK remote-head key that slots into the dash, cut to your VIN and programmed to the immobilizer at the truck. Older chip keys and the 2019-and-up proximity fobs with the hidden blade are the same visit. Every RAM year is covered with the VIN handy.

It depends on the year. 2009-2012 RAM 1500: IYZ-C01C; 2013-2018 RAM 1500: GQ4-53T; 2019-2024 RAM 1500: OHT-4882056. The ID is printed on the back of your fob case. Trim and market can change it, so we confirm the exact part by VIN before the van rolls out.
