Dodge Challenger Keys & Fobs
Which key your Challenger takes depends on the year. Early third-gen cars (roughly 2008 to 2014) use a remote-head key: a laser-cut (sidewinder) blade with a chip and the lock/unlock buttons built into one head, and it needs onboard transponder programming through the car's security module. From about 2015 up, most Challengers run push-to-start with a proximity smart fob (FOBIK-style on some early ones, then the slimmer smart key), so the car reads the fob over RF and you start by pressing the brake and the button. Both types pair to your specific VIN, so a new key has to be cut to your ignition and programmed to the car before it'll crank or arm the remote functions. SRT, Scat Pack, and Hellcat trims use the same proximity fob system as the rest of the lineup.
A common one on Challengers is a worn or water-damaged proximity fob. The rubber button pad cracks, the lock or trunk button stops responding, and intermittent push-to-start failures usually trace back to a dead CR2032 coin cell inside. Swapping the battery fixes a lot of "my fob died" calls. If the fob itself is cracked or the board is shot, we cut and program a fresh proximity fob to your VIN on-site so push-to-start and the remote come back. Worth knowing: if your Challenger only reads down to one working key, get a spare made before it's lost. Programming a replacement is faster and cheaper when there's still a known-good key in hand.
Dodge Challenger Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Dodge Challenger takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2008-2014 | FOBIK key | IYZ-C01C |
| 2015-2023 | Proximity smart fob | M3N-40821302 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
