Dodge Durango Keys & Fobs
The Durango's key tech depends on the year. Older second-gen Durangos (2011 to roughly 2013) used a remote-head transponder key with a metal blade you turn in the ignition. From around 2014 on, most Durangos run proximity (push-to-start) smart fobs, the rounded FOBIK-style and later the newer black smart key, where you keep the fob in your pocket and the truck reads it to start. Both types pair to the truck through the WIN module, and either way we need the VIN to pull the right key code and program the transponder or proximity fob to your specific vehicle. Adding a fob means onboarding it to the system on-site; a lost-all-keys situation takes a little longer because we have to generate a new key from scratch by VIN.
A very common Durango call is a dead push-to-start fob that won't unlock or start the truck. Nine times out of ten it's the CR2032 coin cell inside the fob, not the truck. If your range got shorter before it quit, or the dash flashes a "key fob not detected" message, swap the battery first. When the fob still won't respond after a fresh battery, the next suspect is worn internal buttons or a cracked board from being dropped, and at that point a fresh fob programmed by VIN is the fix. Push-to-start Durangos also have a backup: there's a hidden slot or spot near the start button where you can hold the dead fob to start the truck once, which gets you off the side of the road.
