Which key your Mazda 3 takes depends on the year. Early cars (roughly 2004-2009) use a bladed transponder key with a 4D-family chip that has to be programmed to the immobilizer. Mid-generation cars (about 2010-2018) run either a remote-head flip key or, on higher trims, a proximity smart fob for push-to-start. The current 2019+ Mazda 3 uses a proximity smart fob standard, with a laser-cut emergency blade hidden inside for the door.
