What Key Does the Kia Optima Use?
Which key your Optima takes depends on the year. Older Optimas (roughly 2006-2010) use a metal transponder key with a chip in the head that the car has to recognize before it'll start. The 2011-2015 generation runs either a remote-head key (cut blade plus integrated remote buttons) or, on UVO/push-button-start trims, a proximity smart fob you keep in your pocket. The 2016-2020 Optima leans heavily on the proximity smart key for push-to-start cars, with a laser-cut emergency blade hidden inside the fob for the door. The most common Optima call
A really common one on the 2011-2015 and 2016-2020 Optimas is the smart fob "dying" when it's really just the coin battery inside (a CR2032).
