Infiniti QX60 Keys & Fobs
The Infiniti QX60 has used Nissan's Intelligent Key proximity (push-to-start) fob since the model launched. You carry the fob, the QX60 senses it, and you start with the button. Inside the fob is an emergency laser-cut (sidewinder) blade that slots into the door and a hidden ignition slot if the fob battery dies. First-gen QX60s (roughly 2014 to 2021) run the older 4-button Intelligent Key; the redesigned 2022-and-newer QX60 uses an updated smart fob with a sleeker case and revised electronics. Both generations need the fob registered to the car's immobilizer with a scan tool that pulls the QX60's PIN from the VIN, then writes the fob to the BCM. We do that on-site with our programmer. Important detail: on most QX60s, when a fob is added every existing fob has to be re-registered in the same session, so bring all the fobs you still have.
The most common QX60 call we get is a fob that's gone weak or dead, not lost. The Intelligent Key runs on a CR2032 coin cell, and after a few years you'll see "Key System Error" or "No Key Detected" on the dash, the doors stop unlocking on approach, or the truck only starts if you hold the fob right against the start button. Nine times out of ten a fresh coin cell brings it back. If a new battery doesn't fix it, the fob's internal board or the antenna ring around the ignition can be the culprit, and that's when we test it on-site and program a replacement if needed.
