Hyundai Sonata Keys & Fobs
The Sonata's key changed a lot over the years, so we match it to your exact model and VIN. Older Sonatas (roughly 2006 through 2014) use a transponder chip key, and the newer ones in that range take a remote-head key that combines the cut blade and the lock/unlock buttons in one unit. From about 2011 up, push-to-start trims use a proximity smart fob (push-button start, no blade in the ignition) plus a hidden emergency key blade tucked inside the fob. The 2015-and-up cars moved to a laser-cut (sidewinder) blade on the keyed trims, which needs a higher-end key machine, not the cheap hardware-store cutter. Every one of these has to be cut to your VIN and then programmed to the car's immobilizer with a scan tool so the engine will actually start. Adding a smart fob also means pairing it to the body control module. We carry the blanks and run an Autel IM608 so we handle the cutting and the programming in one stop.
A really common one on the 2015-2019 Sonata is the proximity fob that stops working from across the lot, or the door won't recognize it until you press the handle button two or three times. Nine times out of ten that's just the CR2032 coin battery inside the fob going flat, and a fresh one brings it right back. If a new battery doesn't fix it, the fob's circuit board or its internal antenna may be worn out, especially if it's been dropped or ridden around in a pocket for years. We test the fob on the spot and tell you straight whether it needs a battery or a full replacement and reprogram.
Hyundai Sonata Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Hyundai Sonata takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2011-2014 | Proximity smart fob | SY5HMFNA04 |
| 2015-2017 | Proximity smart fob | TQ8-FOB-4F07 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. An all-keys-lost Sonata is one of our regular calls. We pull the key code from your VIN, cut a fresh blade, and program it to the car's immobilizer on-site, no working key needed to start. All-keys-lost takes longer than a spare since we have to reset the system, but we still knock it out in one visit, usually same day.
