Hyundai Elantra Keys & Fobs
What your Elantra uses depends on the year. Older Elantras (mid-2000s through about 2016) run a transponder chip key, often a remote-head key where the blade and the lock/unlock buttons are one unit, with a Hyundai HITAG-2 style chip that has to be programmed to the car's immobilizer. Push-to-start Elantras (the SEL, Limited, and the newer 2021+ CN7 body especially) use a proximity smart fob, the kind you keep in your pocket to start the car. Higher trims got the flip key or smart key with a hidden laser-cut emergency blade tucked inside. Every one of these needs the chip or fob married to your specific car through the OBD port, plus a key cut to match. We do both on-site: cut the blade and program the immobilizer and remote so lock, unlock, trunk, and start all work before we leave.
A common one on the Elantra: the lock or unlock button quits but the car still starts fine. That's usually the rubber button pad inside the fob wearing through from years of thumb pressure, not the chip dying. If the remote feels mushy or you have to press three times, the fob shell is worn out. We can reshell a transponder remote-head key and move the working electronics over, or program a fresh fob if the board's gone. The other frequent call is a totally dead remote that a fresh CR2032 coin battery fixes in two minutes before you ever need us.
Hyundai Elantra Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Hyundai Elantra takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2012-2017 | Key + separate remote | TQ8RKE-3F03 |
| 2016-2020 | Proximity smart fob | CQOFD00120 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
