Chevrolet Tahoe Keys & Fobs
The Tahoe's key tech depends on the year. Older Tahoes (roughly 2007-2014) use a transponder key with a cut blade and a chip in the head that the truck has to recognize before it'll crank. The 2015-2020 Tahoe runs a flip-style remote with a transponder on base trims, and a proximity smart fob (push-to-start) with a hidden emergency blade on LT/LTZ/Premier trims. The 2021+ Tahoe is all proximity smart fobs with push-button start. Every one of these has to be programmed to your specific VIN, and proximity fobs also need to be synced to the truck's body control module, which is why a blank fob off the shelf won't start it. We cut the metal blade and program the electronics on-site with our Autel and Xtool gear.
A common one on the 2015-2020 Tahoe smart fobs is worn-out buttons and a dying coin-cell battery. The fob feels mushy, the remote start range drops, and eventually push-to-start throws a "No Remote Detected" message even with the fob in the cab. Sometimes it's just a dead CR2032 battery and a fresh one fixes it. If the buttons are cracked or water got in, the fob shell is shot and you need a replacement programmed to the truck. We can swap the battery or cut and program a new proximity fob on the spot and tell you which one you're actually dealing with before you pay for a part you don't need.
Chevrolet Tahoe Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Chevrolet Tahoe takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2007-2014 | Separate keyless remote | OUC60270 |
| 2015-2020 | Proximity smart fob | HYQ1AA, HYQ1EA |
| 2021-2024 | Proximity smart fob | YG0G21TB2 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. An all-keys-lost Tahoe is still a driveway job for us. We pull the key code from your VIN, cut a fresh blade, and program the transponder key or proximity fob to the truck so it'll start. It takes a bit longer than adding a spare since the system has to be reset, but you don't need to tow it anywhere.
