Chevrolet Colorado Keys & Fobs
Key type depends on which generation you've got. First-gen Colorados (2004-2012) mostly use a transponder key with the GM "Circle Plus" / PK3 chip, cut to the ignition. The second-gen truck (2015-2022) moved to a flip key or remote-head key on most trims, with a few higher trims and later years using a proximity (push-to-start) smart fob. The newest Colorado (2023+) is push-to-start with a proximity fob across the board. Either way, the key isn't just cut to your locks, the chip and remote have to be programmed to your truck's body control module so the engine recognizes it and the lock/unlock buttons work. We pull your key code from the VIN and program on-site with Autel and Xtool gear, so you don't need to bring an existing key for most jobs.
The most common Colorado call we get is "only one key and I'm scared to lose it." GM only sends one key with a lot of these trucks, so owners go years on a single key until it cracks, the buttons wear out, or it gets lost, and then they're stuck. On the push-to-start trucks, a weak fob is usually just the coin cell battery (a CR2032) dying, which makes you hold the fob right against the start button to crank. We swap the battery, and if you want a real spare we cut and program a second key the same visit so a lost key never strands you.
Chevrolet Colorado Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Chevrolet Colorado takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2015-2022 | Flip key / remote | M3N-32337100 |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We don't need an existing key. We read your truck's key code off the VIN, cut a fresh blade, and program the chip and remote to your Colorado on-site. All-keys-lost takes a bit longer than adding a spare because we have to pull the code and clear the old keys, but it's still usually a same-day job in your driveway.
