Chevrolet Equinox Keys & Fobs
The Equinox key setup depends on the year. Older Equinox models (mid-2000s through early 2010s) use a transponder key with a metal blade and a separate flip remote, or a remote-head key that combines both. From roughly 2010 to 2017, most Equinox keys are a laser-cut (sidewinder) transponder key with the GM remote built into the head. The third-gen 2018-and-up Equinox switched to a proximity smart fob for push-to-start trims, while base trims kept a flip key with a transponder. Every one of these needs more than cutting: the transponder or smart fob has to be programmed to the car's immobilizer so the engine will start, and remote functions get synced too. We pull your key code by VIN, cut the blade on-site, and program the chip with our Autel and Xtool tools right there.
A common Equinox headache is the fob buttons wearing out or the remote going dead while the key still starts the car. Nine times out of ten that's the little CR2032 coin cell inside the fob, not the fob itself. We swap the battery and re-sync the remote in a couple minutes. If the lock/unlock buttons have physically worn through from years of thumb pressure, that's a sign the fob shell or the whole remote is failing, and a fresh programmed fob fixes it.
Chevrolet Equinox Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Chevrolet Equinox takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2010-2017 | Flip key | OHT01060512 |
| 2018-2023 | Proximity smart fob | HYQ4AA, HYQ4EA |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. An all-keys-lost Equinox is no problem on-site. We pull your key code from the VIN, cut a fresh blade, and program a new transponder or smart fob to the immobilizer so the engine starts. It takes longer than a spare-key job because the system has to be reset, but we handle it in your driveway, no tow to the dealer.
