What Key Does the Acura RDX Use?
The Acura RDX has run proximity (push-to-start) smart fobs for a long time, so most RDX owners are carrying a keep-it-in-your-pocket prox key, not an old metal blade. Earlier RDX generations used a Honda/Acura transponder smart key with a hidden emergency blade tucked inside the fob (that blade is laser-cut/high-security on later years). The current third-gen RDX uses an updated proximity fob that talks to the push-button start system. Either way, a new fob isn't plug-and-play: it has to be cut to your ignition or door and then programmed to the car's immobilizer so the engine will start. A super common RDX call is a fob that's gone weak or dead: the truck still starts if you hold the fob right against the start button, but the doors won't unlock from a normal distance and the remote feels laggy.
