Acura RDX Keys & Fobs
The Acura RDX has run proximity (push-to-start) smart fobs for a long time, so most RDX owners are carrying a keep-it-in-your-pocket prox key, not an old metal blade. Earlier RDX generations used a Honda/Acura transponder smart key with a hidden emergency blade tucked inside the fob (that blade is laser-cut/high-security on later years). The current third-gen RDX uses an updated proximity fob that talks to the push-button start system. Either way, a new fob isn't plug-and-play: it has to be cut to your ignition or door and then programmed to the car's immobilizer so the engine will actually start. We pull the key code by VIN, cut the emergency blade, and program the fob on-site with our Autel IM608, syncing it to the RDX's smart entry system. If you've lost every fob (all-keys-lost), that's a deeper immobilizer procedure than just adding a spare, but it's a routine job for us roadside.
A super common RDX call is a fob that's gone weak or dead: the truck still starts if you hold the fob right against the start button, but the doors won't unlock from a normal distance and the remote feels laggy. Nine times out of ten that's just the CR2032 coin battery inside the fob, and a fresh one fixes it in two minutes. The other frequent one is worn fob buttons or a cracked case after years of pocket and keychain abuse, where the lock/unlock buttons stop responding even with a good battery. If a new battery doesn't bring it back, the fob's internals or its pairing to the car are the issue, and we can re-shell, re-pair, or cut you a fresh programmed fob on the spot.
