Acura MDX Keys & Fobs
The MDX has run push-to-start proximity (smart) fobs for most of its modern life. Third-gen MDX (2014-2020) uses a Honda/Acura proximity smart key on the HITAG transponder family, with a hidden emergency blade inside the fob for the door. The newer fourth-gen (2022+) carries a redesigned proximity fob but the same push-button-start setup. Older second-gen MDX (2007-2013) ran a remote-head transponder key you physically turn in the ignition. Every one of these needs the fob's transponder married to the MDX immobilizer through the OBD port, and proximity fobs also need the keyless-entry side registered. We pull your VIN, cut the emergency blade or the metal key, and program it on the spot with Autel IM608 gear.
A common one on the 2014-2020 MDX is a fob that "feels dead" but actually just needs a coin battery. The proximity fob runs on a CR2032, and when it drops you'll get a "key fob battery low" message, then doors that won't sense the key and a no-start. Before the truck wears out the rubber buttons crack and start, swap the CR2032. If push-to-start still won't catch, hold the fob right against the start button (the backup ID coil lives there) and it'll usually crank. If that fails or the fob's water-damaged, we cut and program a fresh one on-site.
Acura MDX Key Fob FCC IDs
Flip your fob over: the FCC ID is printed on the back of the case. Find it below, or just read it to our dispatcher. It tells us the exact remote your Acura MDX takes before the van rolls out.
| Years | Key type | FCC ID |
|---|---|---|
| 2007-2013 | Remote-head key | OUCG8D-380H-A |
| 2014-2020 | Proximity smart fob | KR5V1X |
Spare key with a working key in hand: from $75. Full replacement, no key at all: from $189. Smart and proximity fobs price above basic chip keys; the exact flat number comes with your VIN on the call.
Trim and market can change the fob, and several IDs often fit one model year. We confirm the exact part by VIN on every job, so a mismatched guess never reaches your driveway.
